Dining at Mishiguene in Buenos Aires

Voted top 15 of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, Mishiguene (“crazy” in Yiddish) in Buenos Aires, Argentina is a top food destination for dine-in during your next visit at the port city.  Chef Tomás Kalika created a delicious culinary experience that takes you through the flavors of Jewish cuisine honoring Argentinian Jewish immigrant heritage inspired by Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Israeli and Middle Eastern cooking with a Latin American twist.

During my last trip to Argentina I had the opportunity to dine-in at Mishiguene and experienced the six course degustation with wine pairings. This includes a cocktail, sparkling water, a course of six wonderful wines and a coffee after dessert, bread basket with sides of  hummus, house pickles, pickled jalapenos and schmaltz. The six courses include their famous baba ganoush, a very generous and tasty pastrón and my personal favorite the vereniki, which is a type of eastern european dumpling filled with potato on a sweet sauce and topped with sweet crispy onion.

The food was delicious and rich in flavor. However, I’d recommend arriving with an empty stomach since the amount of food and wine will leave everyone satisfied and full. The staff and overall service were great making the guests feel very welcomed. The design and decor of the restaurant including the front patio, provides the ambience with a chic aesthetic with a New York City feel to it. The price for the six course experience goes around $90 USD per person, which although might feel pricey for some, is completely worth it for a top dining experience in South America.

Overall I highly recommend the Mishiguene to anyone visiting Buenos Aires. But for those that might be interested in something similar but in North America, then Mishingene in Mexico City might be the best match.
